Soupçon part 3 and more Benjamin Biggs

I spent the weekend doing a little stitching. Once the mess that I showed in the last post was cleaned up, it was hard to getting back to prepping appliqué. Seemed a shame to mess up that room again. Sadly the people that viewed our house are not interested so it will be a mess again in no time! The first thing I stitched was my first Benjamin Biggs block.

I am happy with how it turned out but after stitching someone posted on the FB group that in the first pattern the buds are going the opposite way as in the quilt. Well, if I had more carefully read the instructions I would have seen that as it was clearly mentioned. But I did not as I was so excited to get this block ready for stitching. No problem as I now know I just have to reverse them for the rest of the blocks and I did realize it before I prepped this next one. I decided to add a bit of solid into the quilt as I think the only fabric I will have enough of for the swags is a solid and I think that solids would have been mixed in at the time. I am treating each block totally separately, not trying to match the bud fabrics as I am imagining the original to be an album made by many people using their own fabrics. I found a few more reds and greens in the stash today so I feel confident that I can make this whole top from my stash!

I also finished part 3 of the Soupçon Hexagon mystery. I am having such fun with this mystery. Each part has been able to be completed in a few hours, that is once the difficult task of selecting fabrics is complete. So far I really like how this is looking. Wonder what will be added next?

Well, time to get back into the studio for a little more prep work.

Happy stitching!

They all look wonderful!
I really wish I had stylized my first BB block. I love how yours turned out.

Well, I love it! Isn't it amazing how many people there are who "need" to correct us-lol. Cheery wave! Bev

I love that red print in the top block! What lovely applique! I think the solids will work in there perfectly.

Both your blocks are wonderful! I hope you plan to post the top half to the BBWQ blog - it is so pretty - or maybe you already did. The soupçon block really is superb. So glad I got to see this. I invite you to link it to Hexie Weekend (closes midnight tonight). Hexie loves will sigh over what you've done with this.

You work on the best projects! I like that you're making your BB blocks with different reds and greens as though they've been made by different people. Your hexie star is to die for. I wonder what will happen next with that one.

Beautiful work Heather! I don't think the direction of the buds matters as long as it is consistent over the whole quilt. I have just finished the second block and have used a solid in there too - for the same reason Lol!

I love BOTH your projects. Really pretty work. I think your block one looks perfect, but I guess I'm not getting the whole reverse-the-buds thing, as they look to me in both blocks to be going the same way.

I can understand that you don't want to "mess" up your sewing room again, just after cleaning it up. I feel exactly the same. Unfortunately there's no way around it if we want to be creative!!! Love how you finished your hexagon block! And your Benjamin Biggs blocks look great too. Does it really matter if the buds go the wrong way??? It just makes it your quilt!

Well poo about the people not being interested in the house. Maybe keep the sewing room messy so they can see you are really an artist at work and they are buying a house from an artist. Yeah! :) :) :)

More wonderful blocks! I can't believe how much you accomplish (and doing it while you keep your house neat too!). Maybe you can just quickly shove all the fabric piles into a laundry basket and stick it in your car when a prospective buyer comes to visit?

I am shocked to see that you are also doing the Soupcon and the Love Entwined as I am. I am so behind on the LE ! only on Part 2. I have finished my block for Di's Mystery Quilt. and have been downloading the Benjamin Biggs but decided to put it off for now as I feel I have too much on my plate. So. we have a lot in common
