Are you a trimmer?

Well I am not and I gotta say my least favorite part of making a Schnibble is all the trimming required. But since the results are good I guess it is worth all the time and effort and I see more Schnibbles in my future. I really like how this little top turned out and I think it will make a great little table topper on my black kitchen table in my new home.

And looking at it hanging on the design wall with some of my butterflies I am so excited that they look nice together. My last two houses have had yellow walls in both the great room and kitchen and white cabinets and were decorated in a decidedly French theme. But in this new home, with its dark cabinets and counters and a very open floor plan I am going in a different direction. At this stage of life though, I have collected many things that I love and have special meaning that I want to incorporate into the decor. Nor do I have the money to start over following the latest design trends but I love decorating and hope to create a stylish and comfortable home. It is quite a challenge using what I have in new ways to create the British colonial look I am going for this time. It reminds me a lot of making a quilt and pulling various fabrics and patterns into a harmonious design. I hope you don't mind hearing all about my design process in my new home. I am enjoying recording the process and it will be fun for me to look back on once I am settled.

Both projects look great! I have made a lot of Schnibbles and the amazing amount of trimming is definitely worth it as they are great patterns! Your decorating plans sound fabulous.

I don't like trimming but I accept it as something that just has to be done sometimes. Your Schnibble looks great so it was worth it! I enjoy hearing about your house decorating.

There always seems to be slow step in the art of quilting--one that has to be done--but takes forever!!! It really does give a great result, but it does take time and makes a small mess to trim up blocks seams. The schnibbles quilt is great--love those colors and they match your butterflies. I love seeing what you are doing for decorations in your new home. I sit here dreaming about getting my sewing room organized--I need to get it done. Moving is such a pain--but getting it all the way you want it to look will be worth all the work in the end. Quilting seems to keep you focused during the times you have to wait for things to be done. My youngest son got the flu that is going around--last night I did some handsewing on a quilt top I have been working on forever. It actually was started when this same son had shoulder surgery from playing football. It is so nice to have a project I can pick up and get something done on, while I in the same room as the sick son. He fell asleep on the sofa, and I finally had to get up and find the remote. I can not stand some of the stuff he watches on tv!!! Keep quilting Judy

Wow! Those do look great together! I'm always interested in how people put their houses together (the fact that they actually have a plan is great)! And no, I too get frustrated with oodles of trimming, but it needs to be done, so I just get after it and hope to be done soon.

I thought they looked great together when you posted the butterflies! I thought you planned it that way!! Looks good! I love hearing about your decorating. I had the same problem when we moved here...last house was country, this one is more formal, so my country peeps are few and far between in this home. I just have a few sitting here and there. Post pics when you ge the decorating going!! PS...my day brightened up yesterday...good news came my way.
