Feeling Blue

Not sure if it is the weather or the general uncertainty in my life these days, but I have been feeling rather blue. And what could be a better pick me up than starting a new project, unless it is returning to a lingering UFO. I haven't played with these Sue Daley "This Goes With That" hexagons in awhile and this weekend, when I felt myself in the need of a little EPP therapy, I made these. I had cut several the last time I worked on this project, so they were all ready for some stitching while watching the Olympics.

I now have 60 completed and I am starting to think about how I want to assemble them. I laid them out on the bed in the master bedroom (I will keep these Master Bedroom colors in the next house) in an effort to help me decide. Originally, I thought I would assemble them side by side much like the popular Candied Hexagon quilt.

But I am also considering adding triangle in a solid Snow White so the hexagons are separated and can be more easily seen as individuals.

I really can't decide as I like both options. I would love to hear what you think, though the picture quality may make it too difficult for you to get a good idea.

Another house showing today and one tomorrow. I sure am getting tired of trying to keep the sewing room tidy!

Oops, one of the photos posted twice and I cannot figure out how to delete it. Sorry!

love these hexies - I'm with you on feeling a little blue - its winter for me and will be glad for warmer weather and some sun!

Big hugs to you and hope "the blues" are gone soon…..'open for inspections' are a pain in the butt and I truly understand. After 5 months we still haven't had an offer but at least the place is empty now. Love you blue quilt too - take care xx

That was supposed to say "your" quilt! xx

Personally, I would refer them with white triangles - to give the eye a rest.

I love your hexagons either way, but if I have to cast a vote, then I'd say with the white IF they are going to go on your bed, but side by side IF they are going to hang on a wall. Not sure why. They really are wonderful colors. I too have had the blues all day today--though I haven't been so productive as to do anything about it quiltwise. I'm afraid I've just been using chocolate therapy, which leads to a different kind of blues when I try to fit into my jeans.

They're very pretty, and I like the white triangles, so they can be viewed more individually.
After watching the weather a few minutes ago, do you really want to move back to Atlanta? LOL!

Go to your Dashboard and bring up this post. If you click on the photo you want the line of small-medium-large etc has remove as the last option. Hope that helps. I saw a quilt at my LQS that will be in Quiltmania, next month,I think that would suit your hexies.

I'm so sorry you have the blues! I've been fighting them all weekend but my Dr says it's low estrogen again. I hope we get that back to normal soon!
I love the hexies either way but if you add the white you'll get a bigger quilt.
Fine better soon! I have my fingers crossed that you're house will sell quickly!

I love the first "candied hexagon" setting. I did one last year in soft pinks yellows and greens. Its still not quilted though as i can't decide on HOW. for that reason the second setting as used in Sue Daly's "This goes With that" might be easier to quilt. I would suggest you consider how you would like to quilt it and then make a decision on your setting.

Heather, I like the first one, but I'd hold off and see the one in Quiltmania before committing. How about doing a google image search and see what other layouts are out there. I invite you to link this to Hexie Weekend - maybe someone there can suggest another setting. There are so many fabulous ones out there.

You do the most amazing things!!!

I normally like them side by side, but I think yours would benefit from the white spacers. Curious about the quilt in Quiltmania....

Oh aren't they just beautiful! I used to sit and baste hexies by the hour. Such comfort

I don't mind seeing a photo twice when it's of your gorgeous hexies! I like both layouts but prefer them all together. I hope your sewing cheered you up. It's very unsettling selling a house and knowing you'll have to move.

So pretty! I just love your hexie stars.:)

Sorry I'm no help but I like both options. I agree with the response of thinking about where it will be used and how you'd like it quilted before you choose.

Love the fussy cutting! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers during this time.

your "blues" blocks are absolutely gorgeous. I love all the variations in the piece shapes!
wonderful -
hope the house sells soon!

p.s. I like them block to block but the other setting would be pretty too!

They are so busy (and wonderful) that they need spacers. Just not sure white is right tho. Great job (as usual)! XO

Oh my gosh--so pretty! They look like porcelain dishes! I think the white spacer enhances them and lets each one shine!

Sorry you have been 'blue' - house showing is bound to do that to you. Your quilting blues, however, are wonderful! Love these blocks. I love the randomness of block-to-block (my favourite) but for on the bed - I would probably go with the more organised arrangement with the spacers. Either is gorgeous!

I love your blocks and the colours really re wonderful. I think I like your idea of spacers best to showcase the blocks. .

So sorry you have the 'blues' - totally understandable. Selling a house is a nightmare at the best of times! I don't know which layout I would choose, I love them both!!

Your hexies are gorgeous. Feel free to link up over on my blog or Angie's

Feel better.

Hi Heather! Each one is like a little jewel and when they are separated by white triangles it really makes them sparkle so that would be my choice. They are all so lovely I would want to show them off to their best advantage! But either way it is going to be a beautiful quilt!

I'm sorry you've been feeling blue. In addition to your "situation", it could just be this long winter - it seems to be grating on a lot of people this year.

I LOVE those blocks -- SO pretty! My favorite is with the spacers, but I know they'll be beautiful no matter what you do with them!

Yes indeed...you have such an incredible eye for color! These are gorgeous!

what pretty hexies. I don't know which way I like better. They both look good to me.

Hi Heather, just curious - did you ever finish this. It is so pretty. I liked both versions but have started making these blocks and mine are so busy I googled the quilt for inspiration and came across yours. At this stage I am thinking mine would benefit from triangle spacers.
